What our guests actually do
None of this is a brochure list. The first group is straight out of our guests' reviews — things people did from the garden gate. The second is what locals know, all within about half an hour of the villa.
From the garden gate
The river trail & picnic spot
Follow the path through the roses to the banks of the Waikato. Guests call the picnic area at the end of the garden the thing not to miss — breakfast down there is allowed, encouraged even.
A swim in the river
On a warm day guests swim from the grassy bank below the garden — the Waikato runs wide, green and quiet here.
Dinner by the river
Ann cooks — guests' reviews say things like 'a 5-star meal' and 'sublime dinners'. Take it down to the picnic table and let the evening do the rest.
The vegetable farm next door
Ask Ann to point you to the local grower — guests come back with carrots, cucumbers and spinach straight off the land.
Within half an hour
Kerosene Creek
A naturally hot stream in the bush where locals soak under a small warm waterfall. Free, unfenced, unforgettable — bring togs and leave valuables at home.
Aratiatia Rapids
The dam gates open on a schedule and an empty rock gorge becomes a torrent in minutes — our guests' 'narrows by the dam'. Check the release times before you go.
Huka Falls
The whole Waikato River forced through a nine-metre rock chute — about 200,000 litres a second. Walk the riverside track from Spa Park if you'd rather earn the view.

The hidden geothermal valley — a short ferry ride to silica terraces, geysers and a cave the crowds never find. Locals rate it above the famous parks.
Taupō town & lakefront
The lakefront walking trails, the little museum, and the town's easy vibe — a guest-reviewed afternoon, capped with fish and chips by the lake.
Times are from the villa gate, by car, at country pace. Ann and Nikki will happily plan a day around any of these — and know a few more they only tell guests.
